Welcome to Nicola Di Narzo

September 11, 2017

We are pleased to welcome Nicola Di Narzo as a new member of our team here at the Roncalli International Foundation. Nicola will take over the position of International Projects Advisor—Latin America & Philippines.

“There is so much indifference in the face of suffering.
May we overcome indifference with acts of concrete charity.”  Pope Francis.

It is with these words in mind that we welcome a new member to our team, so we can have a clearer perspective of the need behind the grant requests that come to us. Nicola is a Catholic priest who was working for the Diocese of Valleyfield. He works with us in an advisory position. Having lived for many years in Italy and traveled extensively in Europe, he’s had the opportunity to work at various levels within the Church and to collaborate with many orders and religious communities of both men and women, as well as with organizations and communities working in developing countries.

Through his travels in France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, Israel and the United States, and through his collaborations with people and organizations from Togo, Congo, Burundi, Ghana and Brazil, he has mastered multiple languages and speaks French, English, Italian and Spanish fluently. His highly developed critical thinking skills have helped him in many situations to understand the real needs in a community and to differentiate the crucial from the inessential.

Having grown up in the underprivileged areas of Rivière-des-Prairies and Montréal-Nord, he is also familiar with poverty, delinquency and the violence related to deprivation. He spent his youth in multicultural neighbourhoods, and grew up with many friends from the Haitian and Latin American communities. He talks with pride about this past that later brought him to work on the streets with homeless people and drug users, working with an organization called ‘‘Présence Compassion’’ to bring to them the compassion of God.

He comes to us with this rich past of human experience and with a profound understanding of the challenges of working within the Church. He also has experience in restoration and construction projects: he has headed up work on various heritage buildings, including the Saint-Cecilia Basilica Cathedral of Valleyfield, which required him to work together with various governmental bodies and with local municipal and religious authorities. Justice and equality have been foremost in his heart for a long time, and he dreams of a Church and a world in which each person’s dignity is respected. His vocation has always been to manifest God’s love and compassion in our world.

This very desire has driven him to leave parish ministry and seek out an existence based on helping others and providing international aid. He likes to say that his meeting with the Roncalli International Foundation was not only providential, but more like falling in love as he already embraces our philosophy and our vision.
